An Exceptionally Fine Quality English Well Figured Solid Burr Walnut Ladies or Gents Travelling Writing Slope of outstanding quality and generous proportions. Third quarter of the Nineteenth Century.

The hinged lid opening to reveal a fitted interior with a blue-green leather writing area, one half of which can be locked using the main outside key, this is a rare and unusual feature, see image. The rectangular flat top lid with central brass inlaid plaque, the top and side edges of the hinged lid with quadrant polished brass mouldings, the main carcass with similar detailing,

Condition: Professionally restored retaining its wonderful rich honey colour, with a replaced leather in writing area which is nicely done. Box closes firmly with no gaps. Lock and key are present and are working, crystal ink bottle is of a later period, nice original firm hinges.
