An Extremely Stylish Pair of Chinese Flame grained Hardwood and carved Jade Bookends of outstanding quality. Mid Nineteenth Century. 

Each central featured oval hand carved jade medallion depicting birds and flowers is secured by a trio of butterflies, all surrounded in each corner by good fortune Bats, solid thick hardwood uprights with polished brass felt lined rectangular plates beautifully embossed with loquat leaves and fruits.   

Condition: Superb condition for such early pieces, with no evidence of any losses or imperfections. The baise underneath of each has been replaced, nicely done.
