An exceptionally fine early English Well Figured Solid Plum-Pudding grained Mahogany Ladies or Gents Travelling Writing Slope of outstanding quality and generous proportions. First quarter of the Nineteenth Century.
The hinged lid opening to reveal a stunning fitted interior with a mottled burgundy genuine leather writing area with lavish gold leaf tooled decoration. The rectangular flat top lid with central brass inlaid plaque, the top and side edges of the hinged lid with quadrant polished brass mouldings, the main carcass with similar detailing, one side enclosing a full-length pull-out drawer, see images
Condition: Professionally restored retaining its wonderful rich reddish brown colour, with a replaced leather in writing area which is nicely done. Box closes firmly with no gaps. Lock and key are present and are working, crystal ink bottle is of a later period, nice original firm hinges.
