372. Antique Coalport Hand Painted Vase Urn Frederick Chivers Still Life Fruits 1910


Stunning Hand Painted English Porcelain Coalport Twin Handle Lidded single Vase of Museum quality, hand decorated by the supremely talented Artist Frederick Chivers. Circa 1910-20.   

The central oval reserve depicts still life of fruits, apple, peach and black grapes resting on a mossy ground, signed lower left, within a very decorative raised gilt surround, all on a coblat blue ground. Highly ornate gilt handles with dog finials, raised on four claw supports. dark blue painted crown mark as shown on both vase and cover.  

Condition: Good allover condition, tiny loss at very tip of finial lid.   

Height: (entire as per image one) 10" (25.25cm). Width: (at lower widest) 6.25” (16cm). Depth: (lower area) 5.5” (14cm).

Frederick H Chivers 1881-1965 Fruit & Flower Painter: Worked for the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company, but by 1906 worked at Coalport Pottery specialising in Fruit Studies. The background on his exceptional work was achieved by working the ceramic colour with a matchstick, giving a stippled effect.
