872. Antique Pair Japanese Satsuma Table Lamps Vases Urns Meiji Period 1868-1912


Stunning Pair of large early Meiji period Satsuma heavy gauge earthenware four-sided Japanese Vases, now converted to a Pair of Electric Table Lamps. These beautiful Satsuma-ware vases were made during the Meiji period (1868-1912), in this distinctive and wonderful style with lavish gilt highlights all over and circular ormolu bases and mounts.  

Each of square outline, hand decorated in colours of rich enamels with lavish gilding depicting a total of eight figural, narrative scenes depicting geisha and children and samurai warriors on colours within a raised tube-line frame. 

Condition: Superb condition with no allover losses, no wear to gilding. Base and mount have been professionally re-gold plated, very nice untouched surface patination.  

Measures Height: (overall as shown) 17” (43cm). Width: (at widest area) 5.25” (13.5cm). Diameter: (at base) 5” (12.5cm).
