In 1830 Mr James Smith founded the now famous firm at Fouberts Place off Regent Street in London making Umbrellas and Walking Sticks from a workshop behind and retailing his items from his shop.
In the 2011 movie Captain America: The First Avenger, the store front appears in the GG1 background of a shot but the name is changed to Henry Cooper & Sons.
In the 2014 biography A Spy Among Friends: Kim Philby and the Great Betrayal, historian Ben Macintyre includes the detail that Philby owned an umbrella by James Smith.
The Shop also featured in episode four of BBC’s 2015 production of Agatha Christies Partners in Crime.
In the movie Spooks: The Greater Good, the shop is used as dead drop points for agents contacting each other covertly.
*TIP: When deciding to purchase a Walking Stick on-line, always check the dimensions especially its length and even the width of the handle when possible. Many antique ones offered nowadays can vary a lot in length, remember some of these were custom made for wealthy Victorians and Edwardian buyers in the past
