Lapis lazuli is a deep blue semi-precious gemstone prized for its vibrant color and historical significance. It's composed of several minerals, most notably lazurite, which gives it the characteristic blue hue, along with pyrite (which appears as real gold flecks) and calcite (which appears as white veins or patches). The most desirable lapis lazuli has a deep, intense blue color, often with flecks of gold pyrite. The main source is Afghanistan, specifically the Badakhshan province. Other sources include Chile, Russia, and smaller deposits elsewhere.
