968. Antique Pair English Sterling Silver Candlesticks Candelabra Corinthian Columns 1909

Stylish Pair of early Edwardian English Corinthian Column heavy gauge Sterling Silver Single Light Table Candlesticks of outstanding quality and compact proportions.  

Mark of Hawksworth Eyre & Co. Rockingham Street, Sheffield Orchard Works, Sheffield. Sheffield Hallmark for 1909. 

Retailed by Henry Wells. Shrewsbury. 

Each with stepped square spreading bases, the circular fluted column stems with urn shaped sockets cast as Corinthian columns complete with detachable ornately cast beaded edged nozzles.   

Height: (an impressive) 6” (15.25cm). Width: (at base) 3.25” (8.25cm). Depth: (at base) 3.25” (8.25cm). 

Total Weight: 25.7ozs (757gramms). 

Condition: Superb condition with no imperfections with clear crisp hallmarks. Fully loaded, original firm fitting drip pans which are each marked, small dent at top of one which is covered up by drip pan.

Hawksworth - Eyre & Co was a silversmith and manufacturing company of silver and silver plated items based in Sheffield. Founded in 1833 by Charles Hawksworth and John Eyre. The partnership was dissolved in 1869 and the business was continued by James Kebberling Bembridge, Thomas Hall and George Woodhouse. In the 1870s the firm became a limited liability Hawksworth, Eyre & Co Ltd. The company registered further marks in 1900 and 1912. They ceased trading in the 1930s.
