765. Antique English Sterling Silver Trumpet Urn Vase Centerpiece Art Nouveau 1906


A Magnificent, large and rare English Sterling Silver Trumper Flower Vase or Centerpiece of generous proportions, modelled in the Art Nouveau design with very unusual decorative top rim detailing. First quarter of the Twentieth Century.

Mark of G & S Co Ltd for Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Regency Street, London. 

London Hallmark for 1906.  

Height: (entire overall as shown in image) 11” (28cm). Width: (across top rim) 5.25" (13cm). Depth: (across top rim) 5.25” (13cms). 

Total weight: an impressive 21.6ozs. (611grams).

In 1880 the firm was established by William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman, active at 112 Regent Street, London; this premise is previously noted as being used by the silversmith and inventor John Joseph Mechi. 

In 1893 the first absorbed the prior company A.B Savory & Sons, latterly known as Goldsmiths’ Alliance Ltd. From 1898 the firm became Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd being active as jewellers, dealers in diamonds and precious stones, silversmiths, electroplaters and watch and clock makers. They entered the renowned maker’s mark into the London register in 1899. 

By 1952 the company was amalgamated with the renowned company Garrard & Co. Ltd. 

The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co was active with manufactories at Newcastle Place, Clerkenwell; Regent Works, Sheffield and Rue St George, Paris and as retailer of items supplied by various British gold and silver manufacturers also.
