745. Antique Regency Brass Inlaid Coromandel Traveling Desk Wooden Writing Slope Box


An Exceptionally Fine Quality English Well Figured Solid Coromandel Anglo-Indian Colonial Officers Campaign Style Travelling Writing Slope of outstanding quality and unusually large size. First quarter of the Nineteenth Century. This Slope is an impressive 18” wide! 

The hinged lid opening to reveal a fitted interior with a seldom seen polished brass feature surround to corners, a later rich red leather writing surface with actual gold leaf tooled decoration, one half of which can be locked using the second key, this is a rare and unusual feature, see image area, also features three secret drawers, see images. The rectangular flat top lid with central brass inlaid plaque, the top and side edges of the hinged lid with quadrant polished brass moldings, the main carcass with similar detailing. 

This offering is a truly stunning piece.   

Condition: Professionally restored retaining its wonderful rich dark colour, with a replaced leather in writing area which is nicely done. Box closes firmly with no gaps. Lock and keys are present and are working, crystal ink bottles are of a later period, nice original firm hinges.
