742. Fine Pair Chinese Export Porcelain Ormolu Table Lamps 19thCt


 

An Exceptionally Fine Quality Pair Chinese Hand Painted Porcelain Oil Lamps now converted to electricity, third quarter of the Nineteenth Century. 

The main body superbly painted in bright coloured enamels, depicting Chinese Figures, Butterflies, exotic Birds, leaves and flowers all on a white glazed ground. The Lamps are supported on its original well cast Ormolu decorative circular spreading bases which were cast in France.

During the middle of the Nineteenth Century Japan opened its borders to the Western powers, and the native art, hithertofore unknown in Europe, launched a taste for Japanese Art, and re-awoke the taste for the decorative arts in China.

Condition:  Good condition, the bronze mounts and bases have been professionally re-gold plated. No restoration. Professionally re-wired for electricity. Back views are similar.
