An exceptionally well cast Gilt Bronze framed Portrait depicting Arthur Wellesley 1st Duke of Wellington 1769-1852, of English origin. Last half of the Nineteenth Century.
The image beautifully cast in high relief, depicts this Irishman in period costume within a later giltwood frame.
Condition: Superb condition with good untouched gilded surface patination. The bronze is laid down on woven velvet fabric in dark burgundy in colour. Some very light wear to frame. No foundry marks.

Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, GCB, GCH, PC, FRS was an Anglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain, serving twice as prime minister. He ended the Napoleonic Wars when he defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
