563. Antique Pair Japanese Satsuma Hand Painted Vase Urns Meiji Period 1868-1912


Stunning Pair of large early Meiji period Satsuma heavy gauge earthenware Rouleau Japanese Vases. These beautiful Satsuma-ware vases were made during the Meiji period (1868-1912), in this distinctive and wonderful style, and in Rouleau vase form.  

Each of baluster outline, hand decorated in colours of rich enamels with lavish gilding depicting a continuous scene of Buddhist Figures, Warriors and Courtier. 

Condition: Superb condition with no allover losses, except for wear to gilding at top rims. Base marks impressed as shown on both pieces, see images, very nice untouched surface patination.  

Measures Height: (overall as shown) 10” (25.5cm). Width: (at widest area) 6.5” (16.5cm).
