FINE ENGLISH OVAL COLORED STIPPLE ENGRAVING

“CHERUBS” ENGRAVED BY FRANCESCO BARTOLOZZI (1727-1815)

A delightful early stipple engraving by the famous Italian artist Francesco Bartolozzi.

The subject is four putti or cherubs playing amongst the clouds set in the original ebonised oval frame.

Bartolozzi moved to London in 1764 and set up his studio in Golden Square off Regent Street. He remained there for nearly fourty years. This print is from the late 18th century.
