Superb Irish Killarney Ware Arbutus Ladies or Gentleman's Jewellery Casket or Table Box of outstanding quality.
Mid to late Nineteenth Century. The square form thumb molded hinged cover with a central rectangular vacant reserve with barber pole inlaid surround and scrolling leaves border, inside is a similar view.
Condition: This piece has been professionally re-polished, original firm hinges, lock and original key are present but key does not activate the lock. The interior has been re-lined and the underneath also.

Killarney Ware: Small items of Furniture & Writing Slopes were made in Killarney Ireland using this local wood known as Arbutus (from the Strawberry Tree) peculiar to this part of County Kerry during the 19th Century and later.
