An Exceptionally Fine Quality Chinese Hand Painted Porcelain Oil Lamp now converted to electricity, third quarter of the Nineteenth Century.
The main body superbly painted in bright coloured enamels, depicting Chinese Figures, Butterflies, exotic Birds, leaves and flowers all on a white glazed ground. The Lamps is supported on its original well cast Ormolu decorative circular spreading base which was cast in France.
During the middle of the Nineteenth Century Japan opened its borders to the Western powers, and the native art, hithertofore unknown in Europe, launched a taste for Japanese Art, and re-awoke the taste for the decorative arts in China.
Condition: Good condition, the bronze mount and base have been professionally re-gold plated.No restoration.
